
Stewart joined the Veterans’ Foundation in April 2025 and brings more than 20 years of experience working practically and strategically across grant-making and the wider Third Sector. He is keen to proactively identify new opportunities to improve funding practices by working collaboratively with other partners.
Stewart grew up in southwest Scotland, then moved to Glasgow where he spent most of his early career working to improve outcomes for young people and communities.ÌýHe worked as a Funding Manager for the Robertson Trust (Scotland's largest independent grant maker) from 2014 to 2022, where he contributed to two strategy renewals focusing on poverty and/or trauma.
He is currently Vice-Chair of Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector, one of the largest Third Sector Interfaces (TSIs) in Scotland, and Chair of its governance committee. He has a particular passion for third sector capacity building.
He was awarded an MSc in Education and Social Research in 2012 and is interested in the use of data and learning in relation to impact.ÌýHe's partial to a dram of whisky and when not working, enjoys spending time with his family and getting in a round of golf!

Sarah joined the Veterans' Foundation in 2020, in a part-time role as Grants Manager. In this capacity, Sarah oversees the end-to-end grant-making process, supporting charitable organizations that provide critical services to veterans, their families, and the wider armed forces community in need.
After relocating from the U.S. to the U.K. in 2017, Sarah gained valuable experience as a peer adviser volunteering with Citizens Advice Edinburgh, providing guidance on benefits, housing, relationships, immigration and employment matters, as well as other practical assistance. Prior to her move, she was an attorney at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP from 2006 to 2018, specializing in employment-based immigration law and related employer sanctions law and managing the US compliance SaaS client services.Ìý
Sarah’s background in legal services, volunteerism, and grant management combined with expertise in program oversight, strategic evaluation, and compliance ensures that funding initiatives deliver maximum benefit.

SarahÌýjoined the Veterans’ Foundation in June 2022 as the Fundraising Manager.ÌýSheÌýbegan her career in investments, enjoying 23 years in UK and global securities lending, trade settlement and corporate actions for Friends Life/Aviva. Ìý
Since 2000,ÌýSarahÌýhas supported growth in the charity, financial and education sectors through relationship management, the development of sustainable income streams, project management and events using both commercial and benevolent strategies.

LouiseÌýhas been with the Veterans' Foundation as a Grants Manager since April 2022, having previously worked in various grant making roles in Scotland over the last 20 years. Most recently as a Senior Funding Officer with the Life Changes Trust, working alongside people with dementia and their unpaid carers, and prior to that as a Funding Manager with the National Lottery Community Fund, working to improve communities most in need.ÌýLouiseÌýhas a keen interest in mind and body health and wellbeing, having studied Sports Medicine at University, then moving on to Health Promotion roles within the statutory sector and more recently completing the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills.ÌýLouiseÌýis also an active Therapet volunteer with Canine Concern Scotland alongside her black lab, Rudi.Ìý

Clare has been with the Veterans' Foundation as a Grants Manager since February 2023. Having previously worked as a Fund Manager for five years with Foundation Scotland, Clare brings with her a wide range of experience and skills. At Foundation Scotland, she supported communities to manage and distribute community benefit funds from wind farms. In the past, Clare has worked as a Capacity Builder, with the local Third Sector Interface (TSI), supporting grassroots organisations with governance and funding and previous to this worked in the Private Sector for over 20 years.

Charity joined the Veterans’ Foundation Fundraising Team in January 2023 as the Digital Fundraising Officer.Ìý
Starting her career in traditional media through radio and print, Charity has also worked in secondary education teaching media literacy and music. Following a move to Scotland in 2015, Charity worked in the Third Sector supporting non-profit organisations within the scope of community development, digital learning, and Marketing/PR bringing a depth of digital experience to aiÌåÓý’ Foundation.
Charity is currently completing a Master of Science programme in Sound Design and enjoys being a Shorewatch volunteer for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation.

David Shaw CBE was the Veterans’ Foundation founder and its CEO from inception until February 2025.
David founded the Veterans’ Foundation in 2016 after 37 years in the British Army, concluding his military career in 2012 as the Major General commanding 2nd Division. He was appointed CBE the same year.
As well as launching the Veterans’ Foundation, he co-founded the Veterans' Lottery – the UK’s largest single-cause lottery - and the award-winning Launchpad, a charity which helps veterans based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Liverpool and Durham, transition from military to civilian life.
